Veterinarians
Kim Jones, DVM
Dr. Kim Jones fulfilled a lifelong dream when she opened Stoney Brook Veterinary Hospital in March 2009. Dr. Jones has practiced medicine in Colorado, New Hampshire and Vermont.
She grew up living in several different states but spent most summers on a large family farm in Kansas. The farm raised beef cattle and maize, but had the usual variety of pigs, chickens, rabbits, dogs and cats. Her love of animals, both for companionship and with a functional purpose, influenced her pursuit of veterinary medicine. She finds working in general practice the ideal challenge, blending science, veterinary medicine and working with people. She and her husband moved from Colorado to Vermont in 2004.
Dr. Jones attended the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry in 1994. A few vacations in Colorado prompted her to move there after completing her undergraduate education and she continued her veterinary education at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and graduated cum laude. Her professional interests include general surgery, pain management, progressive medicine and client relations. Dr. Jones has furthered her education with additional courses in dental surgery, ultrasound, grief counseling and practice management.
She is actively involved with the Upper Valley Humane Society, the Animal Friends Shelter of Kuwait, Dog Run Dog and Angels Among Us Pet Hostel in Hartland, Vermont. Dr. Jones currently lives in New Hampshire with her husband, Tom, and their two children, Elizabeth and Rhys. Their four-legged family members include a Great Dane named Alis and an Irish Jack Terrier named Pickle, who are Dr. Jones' trail-running partners, and a ragdoll cat named Zuko.
A dog lover, Dr. Jones supports and enjoys all activities that involve dogs, including exercising with dogs, dog-powered sports, agility, field trials, dirt dog competitions and specialized training and showing. She especially enjoys meeting new dogs and their people and learning about their lives. When she's not at the hospital, Dr. Jones enjoys being outdoors and can often be found hiking or trail-running with Alis and snow-shoeing, sledding and watching her children play ice hockey in the winter.
Meg Falcone, DVM
Dr. Meg Falcone is a General Practitioner who joined the medical staff of Stoney Brook Veterinary Hospital in July of 2011.
“I was always fascinated by animals of all types,” says Dr. Falcone when describing her early veterinary influences. “I owned and read all of the James Herriot books repeatedly when I was young and after years of convincing, my family finally adopted a puppy when I was in second grade. My grandfather and uncles also raised, trained and drove horses for harness racing, so I loved visiting them. At one point I even had some ducks.”
Despite a love for animals, her family’s lifestyle made owning animals difficult. Dr. Falcone was born in Stamford, Connecticut, but her family relocated several times, principally in Asia, and she graduated from high school in Hong Kong. However, animals had an important place in her life. “As a child, I realized that my dog loved me unconditionally and understood me more greatly than any person in my life, which has affected my entire career,” she says.
For her undergraduate studies, Dr. Falcone attended Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Animal Physiology in 1995. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was president of the Cornell University Chorus and an active member of the Gateway Theatre Company. In the fall of 1995, she enrolled in Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.
Dr. Falcone’s areas of special professional interest include general medicine and surgery and client education. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Falcone and her husband Dan, a science teacher at Hanover High School, have five young kids, Hannah, Ella, Claire, Norah, and Paige. They also provide a home for a range of pets, which includes two dogs, named Foxy and Louie, and two cats, named Pingu and Chloe.
Laurie J. DeMuth, DVM
Dr. Laurie J. DeMuth is a General Practitioner who joined the medical staff of Stoney Brook Veterinary Hospital in February of 2011.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. DeMuth attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for her undergraduate studies and received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1995. As an undergrad, she earned membership into the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s oldest academic honors society. Later that same year Dr. DeMuth enrolled in Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and earned membership in The Society of Phi Zeta, the academic honors society dedicated to recognizing achievement by veterinary students. In 1999, she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Demuth’s areas of special professional interest include surgery and feline medicine. She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Her animal family includes a dog named Squid and five cats named Syphi, Marceau, Lydia, Rhea, and Yeri. All of her pets are rescues. Dr. DeMuth’s interests include being an avid hiker (she has climbed the majority of the highest peaks in New England) and international travel. She has climbed Kilimanjaro twice, spent three weeks trekking in the Himalayas, and traveled to Peru, China, South Africa and Zambia.
